pop3serv is a RFC1939
-compliant implementation of the server-side part of POP3
, the protocol used to retrieve email from a server. pop3serv is a framework which allows the easy creation of POP3 servers for lots of different purposes.
- With pop3serv testing of POP3 client software (such as spam filters) gets reproducible with an email server which always provides the same mails. A simple example is provided.
- Monitoring an enterprise system can be enhanced by using pop3serv to provide detailed log information as downloadable emails. A log4j logger is already included in pop3serv as an example.
- Complete custom email servers can be created using pop3serv. All is needed is the SMTP part and persistence. For persistence please have a look at COPE.
Therefore, releases published on sourceforge do not
carry any explicit version number.
Instead each release is named after the build number assigned by the
server that built this release.
